Peace Train

Peace is something that everyone should be a part of. In the song Peace Train by Cat Stevens it shows how you can be a part of peace. The amazing hit came out in 1971 and people still listen to it today. I can relate this song to myself, society, and my family.

There have been some fights at my school that aren't very fun to watch. This part of the songs describes it. "Everyone jump upon the peace train." This relates to the fights at my school because instead of people having work things out physically they can work things out peacefully. This song show every one can live a peaceful life and everything doesn't have to be a controversy.

The next connection I made was to the war in Iraq which is our society. I believe that we are fighting for know reason. Many of or men have died or are risking their lives. Many people have lost loved ones and our men would rather stay home with their family then be in Iraq. This part of the song helped me connect it to the war. "Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is, why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss." This part of the song meant a lot to me and probably many others. Why do we always have to fight when we can just stop and live in happiness?

The last connection I made on this song is my family. I can connect this to my family because like every family we fight every once in while. We need to stay away from each other sometimes. This part of song the helped me analyze this again. Now Ive been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is, Why must we go on hating ,why cant we live in bliss. I think that we can always work things out peacefully instead of having to be mad at each other.

After analyzing this song I've started to listen to the lyrics a lot more. Not every song has to have a good beat but have lyrics that others can relate to. In all of Cat Stevens songs his lyrics tell about what is happening in the world around him. And he does a great job of doing so.

Peace Train

The song I chose was  Peace Train  by Cat Stevens. It is a thoughtful and meaningful song.

Peace Train

Peace Train
Cat Stevens
Now Ive been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh Ive been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day its going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Now Ive been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder

Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train Yes,
peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train
Get your bags together,
go bring your good friends too

Cause its getting nearer,
it soon will be with you
Now come and join the living,
its not so far from you
And its getting nearer,
soon it will all be true

Now Ive been crying lately,
thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
why cant we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Peace Train
Cat Stevens, a folk and rock singer and song writer started his career in 1966. He is known for writing meaningful songs and lyrics. Some of his most popular songs were Peace Train, Moon Shadow, and Wild World. After many years of playing music he slowly became Islam and switched his name to Yusef Islam.

He is from London, England. He was the son of Greek father and Sweedish mother. The start of his career started by writing, singing, and dancing to Greek folk songs. When he entered high school he started to take interest in rock & roll. He was influenced by The Beatles, some British pop. By the time he started college he was already singing and performing his own songs. His lyrics are mostly about peace. He was inspired by folk and rock and roll artist. He sings while playing an acoustic guitar in all of his songs.

After selling tons of albums he unfortunately got came down with the disease called Tuberculosis. It took him three years to recover and start writing songs again.
When he finally started to write more songs his fans were disliking his music so he started to write songs more about his personal life. He soddenly rebounded with his two biggest hits, Peace Train and Moon Shadow.

He impacted society with a peace movement. He led protest against the war and wrote a lot of songs about peace which gave a lot of people hope. A strange turn of events happened to Cat Stevens. In the late 70’s he became Islam and changed his name to Yesef Islam. After that he sadly dropped out of music. Today he is writing songs about the Muslim alphabet for kids. He is now running a Muslim school. He is married and has had 5 kids.
